Plant of the week: Pieris ‘Mountain fire’

Pieris are known for being great evergreen compact shrubs which often flower in Spring. Their coloured foliage provides great interest throughout the year which makes them very popular amongst gardeners.

The Mountain fire variety is very bushy and compact whilst having masses of small white flowers in Spring. The new growth of the foliage comes through as a fiery red before turning to a bronze then slowly to dark green in Summer.

Mountain fire requires very little maintenance and can withstand temperatures as low as -15C. Growing to a height of 5ft in both height and width in 10 years means it is ideal for garden beds, borders and large containers.

For best results plant in well drained acidic soil or with ericaceous compost. Ideally planted in a sunny or partly sunned area which is sheltered from harsh winds.
